Precious
Blood School is committed to providing a school environment that
enhances learning and development of lifelong wellness practices. The
purpose of Precious Blood School Lunch Program is to provide your child
with a nutritious and well balanced meal each day at minimum costs.
Our school offers meals that have been planned to meet at least
one-third of a child’s nutritional needs. Every effort is made to
provide reasonable choices and still meet the constraints of budget and
acceptability.
When a child does purchase a meal, they have the option known as offer
versus serve, a strategy that is intended to reduce plate waste.
Students have the option of choosing at least 3 of the 5 meal
components. The 5 components are a serving of meat, two or more
servings of different vegetables and or fruit, a bread or grain serving,
and milk. We would prefer students to select all 5 components
since each provides specific nutrients lowfat flavored and unflavored on
a daily basis, Students are offered a variety of meats/poultry, fresh
fruit, vegetables, and whole grains on a daily basis.
If
a student with a food allergy plans to eat at any time, from the school
cafeteria menu, the cafeteria staff should be informed in writing at the
beginning of the school year. We would also like to meet that
child, and have a recent photo.
Free & Reduced lunches are available to families who qualify.
Applications are sent home to each family at the beginning of the school
year, or you may request one at any time during the school year.
A Wellness Policy has been implemented for this year. Every school
participating in a federal meal program must develop a policy for
nutrition education, physical education, and nutrition guidelines for
all foods sold on campus, not just in the cafeteria.
Breakfast is also offered to the students each day. Students will
order breakfast the day before – breakfast is then delivered directly to
their homerooms the next morning. The breakfast menu is posted on
the Lunch Menu every month.
Please feel free to contact Ginny O’Hearn or Sharry Robinson, your
cafeteria managers at 277-2291, or reach them by e-mail
gohern@preciousbloodschool.org. They are there to assist you
and your children at any time.
