Welcome to 2nd Grade at Precious Blood

Dear 2nd Grade Parents in Room 4,

Welcome to Second Grade! I am excited about the new school year and delighted that your child will be part of our wonderful second grade.  This will be a year of tremendous growth!  My goal is to inspire, encourage and support each child as they continue a journey of lifelong learning.  I’ve been joyfully teaching for ten years and can’t imagine a more rewarding way to spend each day!  Your child may have seen me around last year at lunch or recess.  I will share things about myself with them this week.  I have been happily married 28 years to Doug my best friend.  I have 2 sons.  Ross is 17 and Neil is 19.  Neil is a Jr. at Ohio University becoming a pilot and Ross is a Jr. at Tipp City High School who loves music.  We have one cat and my bird which is our class pet.  I love tennis, music, movies, cooking and eating anything.

I am honored that you are sending me your child.  Our second grade curriculum is broad and challenging.  Language art is focused on language development and enrichment through listening, speaking, reading and writing.  Watching children go from learning to read to reading for enjoyment is one of my greatest joys!  We will read non-fiction, fiction books, poetry, folk and fairy tales.  Our math takes the form of “play” as the children use manipulative materials to gain a deeper number sense, explore problem solving, patterning, place value, money, time, measurements and fractions.   Science is taught by Mrs. Bernsten, the other 2nd grade teacher, on Tues. and Thurs. afternoons. We will travel all around the world in Social Studies.  This year in Religion we will continue our journey to Christ through the Eucharist.

Please feel free to contact me by stopping by after school, sending a note, or phoning the office 277-2291, an e-mail shoy@preciousbloodschool.org with the smallest concern, problem, or confusion.  I will try to contact your call as soon as possible, my door is always open.

Yours in Christ,

Sandie Hoy (Mrs. Hoy)
